What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign is a clear “braces” system that doesn’t use any metal bands or wires, instead utilizing and durable, clear plastic material to create multiple sets of trays that fit over your teeth. The clear plastic is practically invisible, making the trays almost impossible to see while you’re wearing them. Each tray is custom fit to your teeth to ensure comfort, and they are removable so you can take them out to enjoy your favorite foods. You just need to make sure that you brush and floss your teeth before putting the trays back in to avoid tooth decay!
How Does Invisalign Work?
The Invisalign trays use the same basic system of moving teeth as braces do, but simply utilizes a different kind of tool to get the job done. With the Invisalign trays placed over the teeth, the apply a small amount of pressure to the teeth in a specific direction. Over time, the teeth will gradually be pushed into their new positioning.
Unlike the one set of braces that you would have for the entire length of treatment, Invisalign comes in several sets of clear trays for the different stages of movement that your teeth go through. After wearing one set for two weeks, you will switch to the next set until you have none left and your teeth are looking positively perfect. How many sets you’ll need for your smile depends on the individual case.
